Gloucestershire website development

Nobody searches for a plumber in Gloucestershire. They search for one in Nailsworth

The county is a line on a map rather than a search term, which makes covering one properly harder than it looks. The question is not how to rank for Gloucestershire. It is how a single website can hold three places, or thirty, without collapsing into a stack of near identical pages that search engines discount and assistants ignore. We work from Gloucester and the north Cotswolds, and this is the thing we get asked about most.

01

Based in the county

We work from Gloucester and the north Cotswolds. Wherever you are between Chipping Campden and Coleford, a first meeting is a drive rather than a video call.

02

Built to be found

Structured for Google and for the AI answers that now sit above it, and structured to work across several places at once.

03

Still looked after

Hosted, patched, backed up hourly and monitored by us, for as long as you want us to. Most of our work is sites we have run for years.

Gloucestershire

Three counties, pretending to be one.

Gloucestershire is really three places wearing one name. The Cotswolds to the east, which is tourism, hospitality, food and land, and which people search for as a brand rather than as a location. The Severn Vale down the middle, where Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and the M5 corridor do the engineering, logistics, cyber, insurance and public sector work. And the Forest of Dean across the river, rural, distinctly separate in outlook, and carrying the weakest connectivity in the county. One approach to all three is usually an approach to none of them.

It also means county wide search is mostly a myth. Somebody looking for a plumber, an accountant, a nursery or a wedding venue types the name of their town, not the name of the county. Gloucestershire turns up in business to business language, in tenders and frameworks, and in the vocabulary of organisations that genuinely serve the whole of it. Working out which of those describes you is worth considerably more than any amount of keyword research.

What a county wide business actually needs is structure rather than volume. Real pages for the places you genuinely work, not twenty near identical ones with the town name swapped out. The test is simple: if a page would still make sense with a different town in it, it is a thin page, and search engines have been discounting those for years while AI assistants skip them entirely. Underneath that, service pages carrying the real weight, location markup that is accurate rather than aspirational, and one address you actually occupy.

Areas we cover across the whole county
The Severn Vale and the cities

Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Brockworth, Quedgeley, Churchdown and the M5 corridor. Engineering, logistics, cyber, insurance, healthcare and professional services.

The Cotswold side

Cirencester, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh, Chipping Campden, Northleach, Tetbury, Fairford and Winchcombe. Tourism, hospitality, food and land based business.

Stroud, the Vale and the Forest

Stroud, Nailsworth, Dursley, Stonehouse and Wotton under Edge, plus Coleford, Cinderford, Lydney and Newent across the river.

We work nationally too. Being local is an option, not a limit

What we build

Four kinds of job, one way of working.

01

Websites for Gloucestershire businesses

One site that has to work for a customer in Cirencester and a customer in Cinderford without pretending to be two different companies. Fast, accessible, legible on a phone with poor signal, and built so your team can add a branch, a service or a case study without ringing anyone.

02

Bookings, shops and enquiries

The county contains both halves of this. Rooms, tables, tickets, courses and produce on one side, and capability statements, quote routes, trade accounts and referral paths on the other. Plenty of businesses here need some of each, which is a structure question long before it is a design one.

03

Being found across a county

Multi location search done honestly. A Google Business Profile for each premises you genuinely occupy and none for the ones you do not, service pages that carry the ranking weight, and location pages only where you have something real to say about that place. Done properly this also feeds the AI answers, which are markedly less forgiving of thin pages than Google ever was.

Hosting and looking after it

Hosting, patching, hourly backups, uptime monitoring and someone to ring who is in the same county. The larger the site and the more places it covers, the faster it decays when nobody is tending it, because there is simply more that can quietly go out of date.

Working across this county since

2005

Twenty years is a long time to have to live with your own decisions. It is also why almost everything on this page is a site we still host, patch and answer the phone for.

Talk to us about yours →

How it runs

Five stages, and you see every one of them.

01

Talk

Half an hour on what the site has to do, what is not working now, and who it is really for. At your place, wherever in the county that is.

02

Plan

Sitemap, page purpose and a fixed price agreed in writing. This is what everything gets checked against later.

03

Design

You see and sign off the design before a line of it is built, which is the cheapest possible moment to change your mind.

04

Build

Built and tested on a private staging address. You review it on your own phone before anybody else sees it.

05

Look after

Hosting, patching, backups and a monthly look at what the numbers are saying. Or hand it over entirely. Your call.

Questions

The things county wide businesses actually ask.

Answered plainly, because a page that dodges the price question tends to get closed.

  1. Is a Gloucestershire page even worth having?

For a lot of businesses, no. If you trade from one place and your customers come from within a twenty minute drive, your town is worth far more attention than your county. County level pages earn their keep in three situations: when you genuinely serve the whole of it, when you bid for county or framework work and the language matters, and when you have several branches that need a structure somebody can follow. If none of those is you, we will say so rather than build one.

  2. We cover the whole county from one office. How should the site say that?

Honestly, and in one place. One real address with accurate markup, a coverage statement that says where you actually travel to, and service pages doing the heavy lifting. Inventing an address in a town you visit occasionally is a bad idea on its own terms and a worse one now that Google verifies more aggressively than it used to. Saying plainly that you are in Stroud and work across the county reads better anyway.

  3. Should we build a page for every town we cover?

Almost never. The test is whether a page would still make sense with a different town name dropped into it. If it would, it is a thin page, and search engines have been discounting those for years while AI assistants skip them altogether. Build a page for a place only when you have something real to say about it: work you have done there, a branch you actually occupy, or a market that behaves differently. Three good ones beat thirty.

  4. How much does a website cost?

It depends on scope, goals and features. A single site for a Stroud practice and a multi branch site with separate service areas and a trade shop are different pieces of work, and quoting either from a price list would be guessing. We will give you a fixed figure in writing after a proper conversation about what the site has to do.

  5. Do you work in the Forest of Dean?

Yes, and it is worth building for it deliberately. Connectivity across the Forest is the weakest in the county, so light pages, properly compressed images and a low plugin count are not refinements there, they are the difference between the site loading and the visitor giving up. The same applies in the Cotswold valleys.

  6. How long does a build take?

Most sites run somewhere between six and ten weeks from the first meeting to going live. The variable is almost never the build. It is content, and how quickly the photographs and the words come back. A multi location site adds a little, mostly because more people need to agree on what each part says.

  7. Can I update it myself afterwards?

Yes. Everything we build runs on WordPress with an editor your team can actually use, so a new branch, a new service or a change of opening hours does not have to come back to us. We show you how, we leave you notes, and we are on the end of the phone when something looks odd.

  8. What happens once it goes live?

We host it, patch it, back it up hourly and watch that it is still up. Most of the sites on this page have been in our care for years, which is rather the point. A website that nobody is looking after decays quietly, and you tend to find out from a customer.
