Shipston on Stour website development

A market town built on trust. Now built online too

OJE Technology had its first client in Shipston on Stour, and  we are still run local sites for the town, including the Townsend Hall and Shipston Tennis Club. If you run a business, a club or a charity in Shipston, we would like to help you grow it online too.

See what we build →

01

Actually local

We started in Shipston in 2005 and we are only a few miles away today, with a Stratford phone number. A first meeting can be a coffee in town rather than a video call.

02

Built to be found

Structured for Google and for the AI answers that now sit above it. In a catchment this size, a clear and accurate local listing does a great deal of the work.

03

Looked after

Hosted, patched and backed up by us. Two of the sites we built in this town are still in our care today, which is rather the point.

Shipston on Stour

The town where OJE began.

OJE Technology started in Shipston on Stour in 2005. Our first clients were here, and the town has been part of what we do ever since. Townsend Hall and Shipston Tennis Club are both sites we built and still look after, so we know the place from the inside rather than from a map.

Shipston runs on recommendation, and that is a real strength to build on. Most enquiries here begin with a person: a name passed on at the school gate, in the queue at the Co-op or in a local Facebook group. The website picks the story up from there. Its job is to confirm, quickly and warmly, what somebody has already been told. Who you are, what you do, what it costs, whether you come out to Brailes, and how to get hold of you. Answer those well and a small site can carry a great deal of trade.

The other half of the town’s web presence belongs to clubs, halls, charities and community groups, and their needs are different again. Committees change every couple of years, the diary has to stay current, and there is rarely budget for surprises. We build those sites so the people running them can keep everything up to date themselves, and we hold the hosting, the backups and the domain steady in the background so nobody has to worry about it.

Areas we cover from a few miles down the road
Shipston town

CV36 and the streets around it. High Street, Sheep Street, Church Street and the Market Place. Independent retail, hospitality, trades, professional practices, care and the town’s many volunteer run organisations.

The villages

Tredington, Brailes, Ilmington, Halford, Ettington, Cherington, Barcheston and Long Compton.

The wider area

Stratford upon Avon, Chipping Campden, Moreton in Marsh, Banbury and the Cotswold edge.

We work nationally too. Being local is an option, not a limit

What we build

Four kinds of job, one way of working.

01

Websites for Shipston businesses

The site somebody opens after they have been told about you. Who you are, what you do, what it costs, where you cover and how to get in touch, all answered quickly and clearly. That is most of what a website in this town needs to do, and your team can keep the opening hours current themselves without ringing anyone.

02

Booking diaries, memberships and shops

Court and hall availability, membership renewals, event tickets, enquiry forms and products. For a club or a venue this is often the single most useful thing a website can add, because it saves a volunteer taking calls at seven in the evening to check whether Tuesday is free.

03

Being found, in Google and in AI answers

Somebody searching for a plumber in Shipston, or hall hire near Shipston, sees a handful of map results and an AI summary. Getting in front of them comes down to structure, accuracy and consistency rather than budget, which is one of the areas where a small town business can genuinely compete.

Hosting and looking after it

Hosting, patching, hourly backups, uptime monitoring and someone local to ring. We are also happy to take on a site somebody else built, including tracking down the domain and the hosting if those details have gone quiet over the years.

Building websites in this town since

2005

Shipston on Stour is where OJE Technology started, and twenty years is a long time to live with your own decisions. It is also why almost everything on this page is a site we still host, patch and answer the phone for.

Talk to us about yours →

How it runs

Five stages, and you see every one of them.

01

Talk

Half an hour on what the site has to do, what is not working now, and who it is really for. In Shipston if you would rather.

02

Plan

Sitemap, page purpose and a fixed price agreed in writing. This is what everything gets checked against later.

03

Design

You see and sign off the design before a line of it is built, which is the cheapest possible moment to change your mind.

04

Build

Built and tested on a private staging address. You review it on your own phone before anybody else sees it.

05

Look after

Hosting, patching, backups and a monthly look at what the numbers are saying. Or hand it over entirely. Your call.

Questions

The things local businesses and clubs actually ask.

Answered plainly, including the one about price.

  1. Do you actually meet clients in Shipston?

Yes. We started here and we are still only a few miles away, with a Stratford phone number, so a first meeting is usually in person if you would rather. Your premises, or a coffee in town. Townsend Hall and Shipston Tennis Club are both in our care, so we are in town fairly often anyway.

  2. How much does a website cost?

It depends on scope, goals and features. A five page site for a local trade and a booking system that takes payments and manages availability are different pieces of work, and quoting either from a price list would be guessing. We will give you a fixed figure in writing after a proper conversation about what the site has to do.

  3. We are a club or a charity run by volunteers. Can we afford this?

Often, yes. Not for profit work is a proper part of what we do and we price it accordingly. The bigger saving is usually not the build anyway. It is having a site that keeps working as the committee changes, so the next set of volunteers inherit something they can pick up and run with.

  4. We are not sure who looks after our website now. Can you help?

Usually, yes, and it is far more common than people expect. It takes a little detective work: finding who the domain is registered to, working out where the site is hosted, and tracing whichever email address the renewal notices have been going to. Often it is sorted in an afternoon. Occasionally a domain has to be recovered formally, which takes longer. Either way it is much easier to sort out now than on the morning the hosting lapses.

  5. How long does a build take?

Most sites run somewhere between six and ten weeks from the first meeting to going live. The variable is almost never the build. It is content, and how quickly the photographs and the words come back. For a committee, add a little for the meeting cycle.

  6. Will my site rank for Shipston searches?

Rankings are earned rather than bought, so we will not promise you a position. The encouraging part in a town this size is that the field is small and consistency counts for a lot. What the build does guarantee is that nothing is in the way: clean structure, fast pages, correct local markup and a site that Google and the AI assistants can read easily. The rest is content, reviews and time.

  7. Can we update it ourselves afterwards?

Yes, and for a club it matters more than for anyone. Everything we build runs on WordPress with an editor a volunteer can pick up quickly, so fixtures, hire rates and news do not have to come back to us. We show you how, we leave you notes, and we are on the end of the phone whenever you want a hand.

  8. What happens once it goes live?

We host it, patch it, back it up hourly and keep an eye on it. Most of the sites on this page have been in our care for years, which is rather the point. A site that is looked after stays fast, secure and current, and you never have to think about it.
